Eating Out Gluten Free

So you have been invited to dinner, but eating out gluten free is too scary for you to accept the invitation right?

Yes it can be hard, since you still have memories of what it did to your gut last time you ventured into unknown foods, but if you do a bit of homework, you will find that most restaurants will actually have foods on the menu that you can enjoy without too much fear.

1.  First thing, try and have a snack before you head out for dinner if you can so that you are not so famished when you get there that you  make poor food choices.

2.  Stick to simple foods without additional sauces and gravies.  Dinner menus are the easiest, since you can usually get a cut of meat/protein and french fries.  French fries are usually the easiest and safest, since with mashed potatoes and other types they tend to add many additional ingredients.

3.  Always ask for any sauces or gravys on the side, but most gravys made in restaurants tend to have flour to thicken them, so you may want to avoid them.  If the menu says "au juice" that usually means that the steak is served with a clear beef juice which would be a better bet than gravy.

4.  Having a simple cut of meat, french fries, and vegetables would make a great meal.  Fruit and cheese can make a great dessert.  This all depends on the type of place you are eating at of course.

5.  If you have access to the internet, most restaurants will have their menu posted, if not, try calling them.  Many people have health issues with many different foods, and restaurants are usually used to these questions.

6.  You can get a book with all the restaurants that actually cater to Eating Out Gluten Free.  This book is from Amazon, and is full of places all over the country and beyond.  This can be a really helpful book if you are travelling.
